Summary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam website
Although Vietnam is a popular tourist destination in Southeast Asia, their Ministry of Foreign Affairs website doesn’t seem to make much effort in promoting the fact. It is available in English and Vietnamese language options, and here’s what foreign travellers can expect from the site:
1. Home page
The home page is dominated by the latest news from the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Vietnam.
2. Consular section
Although this is one of the most important sections in a ministry of foreign affair’s website, the Vietnamese consular page offers no information on consular services other than providing an email address for inquiries: cls.mfa@mofa.gov.vn
3. General information about Vietnam
You can learn basic facts on Vietnam from its General Information page, which covers its flag, emblem, national anthem and map.
4. Vietnamese missions overseas
If you need to refer to Vietnamese missions overseas, there is a comprehensive list.
If you need information on tourism in Vietnam, we would encourage you to visit the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism website. Summary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hong Kong
Home page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hong Kong website
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong is also called The Commissioner’s Office, and this is reflected in their very basic ministry website. Although Hong Kong is a very popular tourist destination, this is not visible in the ministry’s website as it hardly contains information pertinent to foreign travellers. It is available in English, simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese language settings. Its highlights include:
1. Visa
The visa page offers very little information except for a disclaimer that says, “Visa applicants are increasing in a large number and need longer waiting time in the visa office recently. If you don’t reside or work in Hong Kong permanently, you are required to apply Chinese visafrom the Embassy or Consulate-General of Peoples’ Republic of China in your resident country. You are welcome to China for tourism, business and visit.”
2. Consular services
Surprisingly, the consular services page has been designed to serve only Hong Kong citizens and offers nothing to foreign travellers.
For information on travelling to Hong Kong, we would recommend the Discover Hong Kong website instead, which is a beautifully-designed website that helps you plan your trip by telling you all about the attractions, shopping, dining and touring opportunities, things to do, as well as the latest festivals and events. You may also find relevant travel information from their Immigration Department website.
